If you are someone of a certain age (old), when you read the title, you think of the 1976 Doobie Brothers hit single by that name. But if not, the reference here is what has now grown to hundreds of nationwide protests.

One of the lyrics in the song is, “I ain’t blind, and I don’t like what I see.” And so it is the thousands of folks who were out in the streets all over our country who have taken it to the streets, including good ole Fort Worth, which had at least 200 to 300 folks show up this past Saturday.

The event was organized by 50501, a group formed to protest the unpopular and illegal actions of Trump and Musk, including cutting programs with DEI verbiage in the mission. Like removing a reference to the Enola Gay, the plane that dropped the first bomb in Hiroshima. This is because it had the word Gay in it, which led Rachael Maddow on MSNBC to say laughingly they were right to do that: “Look what it did to me.”

That example is plain stupid and might even give us a chuckle. However, all the other actions are anything but funny. For example, slashing staff at S.S. IRS FEMA and Health Services has led to all kinds of hardships for thousands of folks, including the elderly and other vulnerable groups.
Among the signs and even the chants on Saturday were demanding that the U.S. Bring Kilmar Garcia home. There was a call for Due Process for all and signs that made it clear that the U.S. has no Kings! This demand and the dislike of Trump and Musk were made clear on many Vulgar signs in plain sight that day.
The makeup of the crowd that day was majority White and majority silver-haired folks. Many stated they attended on Saturday to support future generations and preserve democracy. What I did not see is what Musk said in a news report on Wednesday: paid protesters who want to continue stealing from the government. Which is rich for him to say, as much money he gets from the government.
Now, for the people who say, “Why do this?” It does not matter; it does matter. It is an essential reason that most laws to protect our citizens were enacted. And just as important, as one of the signs screamed, “Silence is Complicity.” If we do not object to what is happening, that will not solve the problem. You will only get more of the same if you do nothing.
More protests are coming locally and nationwide, so if you are unhappy with what is happening, I invite you to join us next time. See this space for announcements.
