If you follow politics, you will learn of Hugo Chavez and the mess he left in Venezuela.

“Not all dictators assume power legitimately, there was Francisco Franco of Spain who displaced the legitimately elected socialist president through a costly civil war. “

You will also learn how he disabled the institutions that brought stability to the country.  It was a shared power country, until Chavez.  First, he disabled the courts and the congress.  That enabled Chavez to become a dictator.  Hitler followed a similar pattern.  So did Mussolini.  Not all dictators assume power legitimately, there was Francisco Franco of Spain who displaced the legitimately elected socialist president through a costly civil war.  As a testament to his greatness he built a huge cross near El Escorial in a place called El Valle de Los Caidos.  Valley of the Fallen where he was buried.  It is until recently that the government felt powerful enough to remove his remains to another location.  Similarly, the Communists took over Russia when it was in disarray during the Bolshevik Revolution.

The process of impeaching Donald Trump, the duly elected president of the United States has begun.  Already we hear the sounds of “winners” and “losers”.  To be certain there are already winners and losers.  The biggest loser is Trump.  He bragged about being a great negotiator/deal maker.  He failed to live up to his own reputation and everybody else’s expectations.  He belittled Nancy Pelosi instead of negotiating with her.  He lost.  The Republican Party lost.  They are defending a man whom everyone including his own supporters know is a liar.  In so doing they are twisting facts around to make it seem like nothing wrong happened.  How do you defend a liar?

“The Republican controlled senate has already stated that they will not prosecute Trump.”

It is a known fact that the Russians interfered in the 2016 election in Trump’s favor.  Now Trump is asking a foreign government to interfere in the 2020 election in his favor.  In Spanish there is a saying, “si el rio suena agua lleva.”  If the river makes noise it carries water.  The task of the Republicans is to convince the American people that there is no noise, and that there is no river that Trump is not a liar.

The Republican controlled senate has already stated that they will not prosecute Trump.  That is how Chavez, Hitler and Mussolini took power, they had the support of the legislative function.  The Republicans are defending a man that has publicly stated that the second amendment gives him absolute power.

The ideology and values that used to be the Republican party are gone.  There is no more party of Lincoln or the party of Reagon.  That Republican party is dead.  If there are semblances, they are merely fragments of somebody else’s imagination.

This is what the Republican Party is fighting for, the birth of a dictator.

Ultimately, it will be the American people that will decide the fate of the country.  We will continue being a democracy or will we give birth to a dictator.
