Un impacto negativo de la pandemia es que hay una falta de maestros en los Estados Unidos. Según la Universidad de Texas en Arlington, durante el año escolar 2021-2022, había 376,000 maestros en nuestro estado, pero un 12% dejaron sus puestos (2% más que el año pasado). De acuerdo con el artículo, la causa del problema surge a partir de retención y reclutamiento. Pienso que esta situación debería preocuparnos a todos porque el futuro de todos depende de la educación y el bienestar de los jóvenes.

De hecho, la escasez surge, en parte, por el aumento de los costos de la educación y la disminución entre los salarios de los docentes. Debido a la escasez, muchas escuelas se ven obligadas a contratar a maestros que no están calificados para enseñar una materia en particular.

Específicamente, hay una falta más grande en las materias de educación especial, matemáticas y educación bilingüe. Por suerte, hay programas que tratan de corregir el problema. Por ejemplo, unas organizaciones crearán programas especiales, de título de asociado, para producir más educadores bilingües calificados.

The Impact of the Teacher Shortage in the United States

We have all heard the news about the impact that the pandemic has had on many aspects of our lives. However, the effect on the youth is another tragedy that will have a big impact on our children’s future.

One negative impact of the pandemic is a lack of teachers in the United States. According to the University of Texas in Arlington, during the 2021-2022 school years, there were 376,000 teachers in our state, but 12% left their jobs (2% more than the year before). This situation should concern us all because our future depends on the education and the well-being of our youth. 

In fact, the rise in shortages, in part, is due to increasing education costs and decreases in teacher salaries. Due to this shortage, many schools feel obligated to hire teachers that are not qualified to teach a particular subject.

Specifically, there is an even more significant lack of teachers for Special Education, Math, and Bilingual Education. Luckily, some efforts attempt to address the problem. For example, some organizations are creating special programs for those getting their associate degree, in bilingual education, to produce more qualified bilingual educators in a shorter amount of time.

After all, it takes a village to raise a child. If you would like to help, university students can find employment with a tutoring company because there are a lot of children, especially bilingual children, which need our help.
