As we enter 2025 it is not hard to read this poem and find a direct correlation to the Trump rhetoric on immigration. And as candidate Trump it was easy to discount, Pero as President Trump not so much.
In fact, since he came down the stairs in 2016 to announce his first candidacy for president, he has made illegal and legal immigration the cornerstone of his presidential pitch. Initially his target was the criminals, which no one wants, legal or not. Pero then he expanded to all. And he and his Near-Nazi Republican lap dogs are saying no locations are out of bounds. So, we may see the Gestapo type INS agents at our churches, schools, hospitals and wherever.
In addition, they are not stopping there with their quest to remove non-White Europeans from OUR country. Trump is now saying he will end birthright citizenship as well and family separations will be back in their playbook. And if you think this will never happen, first I hope you are right.
Pero, it has happened in the 1930s and 40s and some in the 50s, people of Mexican descent have been the scapegoat on many occasions. Of the over 1 million deported it was estimated that at least 60% were American citizens. So, if you were among the Latinos that voted for Trump because you aren’t’ illegal, think again. And reread the poem above.
All that said, “A community united cannot be divided” We must stand TALL and become the voice of resistance and hope for those that cant’ In the coming weeks we will be sharing information that we all can use to defend our rights.
