Next week democracy will be on the agenda in Tarrant County District 348th Court. LULAC Council 4568 and League of Women Voters along with Texas Civil Rights project has filed an injunction to stop the Illegal racially motived map recently approved by the Tarrant County commissioner’s court.
By now most know about the Texas gerrymandering scheme that Trump has ordered Abbot to do. Here in Tarrant County, we have O’Hare, and his Merry Men (Krause&Ramirez) that have decided that they and they alone know what is best for Tarrant County residents. And if minorities don’t’ like it, it is too bad. In fact, O’Hare has been quoted as saying that (Paraphrasing) “If you are Republican officeholder and you haven’t been called a racist then you probably haven’t done a thing”
Clearly O’Hare wants to go back to 1950s, when for the most part only White men had a voice. Because of course women and all minorities needed to be told what do. Nini Oishi, a voting rights staff attorney at TCRP, stated that “Redistricting should reflect the people, not silence them.” I believe, along with many minority voters in Tarrant County, that the new map is designed to disenfranchise minorities and prevents us from electing representatives who understand and live in our communities.
Tarrant County residents can share their objections to the illegal maps with their presence at the hearing for the Temporary Injunction. To be held on Thursday September 25th, from 1:30pm to 3:30pm in the 348th District Court. A press conference will follow to discuss the hearing and future actions.
If 1:30 isn’t convenient, feel free to join the press conference afterwards at 100 N. Calhoun Street Fort Worth. Please show up —complacency enables illegal activity to persist. Los Vemos El Jueves, See You Next Thursday. Stand Up and Be Counted!
