Después de años de ser ignorados por Hollywood, ¡finalmente nos ha llegado el momento de brillar a los latinos! Y Disney está más que listo para satisfacer ese mercado.

En tan sólo los últimos años, Disney ha lanzado dos películas animadas que representan la rica y diversa cultura de la comunidad latina, Coco y Encanto. Coco, de Disney-Pixar, rompió récords de taquilla en México y la canción principal de Encanto, “No hablamos de Bruno”, acaba de superar el récord anterior de Disney, “Let it go”.

¡Dicho y hecho! La compañía de Disney, Marvel Studios, se está preparando para traernos nuestra primera franquicia de superhéroes centrada en la cultura latina.

El primer superhéroe latino será un recuento del antiguo personaje de Marvel Comics, “Namor the Sub-Mariner”. Namor, el hombre submarino, es un personaje basado en la mitología de Atlántida y, por supuesto, tiene superpoderes basados en el agua. Namor es el competidor directo más conocido de Aquaman, del estudio rival de Marvel, DC Comics.

Se dice que Namor hará su debut en la muy esperada secuela de Black Panther “Wakanda Forever” y luego se convertirá en su propia franquicia que le dará a la comunidad latina su propio mundo ficticio y superhéroe como lo hizo la franquicia Black Panther para la comunidad afrodescendiente.

Pero quiza te preguntes ¿cómo es esta representación latina? Bueno, Marvel anunció que el actor mexicano Tenoch Huerta, mejor conocido por su trabajo en Narcos: México de Netflix, le dará vida a Namor.

Se rumorea que la mítica Atlántida será reinventada como una fusión con la cultura Azteca. Esta es una idea increíble, ya que los Aztecas eran conocidos por su asombrosa utilidad del lago Texcoco como medio de transporte, agricultura, arquitectura e incluso protección. Encima de ese mismo lago se fundó Tenochtitlan, ahora Ciudad de México. Esa idea también puede servir como una introducción masiva a la cultura profunda de los Azteca incluyendo a sus dioses, seres místicos y religión. Incluso podríamos ver a sus guerreros legendarios defendiendo a su estado contra las fuerzas colonizadoras y utilizando sus conocimientos místicos para retroceder hacia el mar y así fundar la Atlántida.

Las posibilidades son infinitas.

Will Latinos Finally Have Their Own Marvel Movie?

After years of being ignored by Hollywood, we Latinos, will have our moment to shine! And Disney is ready to satisfy this market!

In just the last couple of years, Disney has launched two animated movies that represent the rich and diverse culture of the Latino community, Coco and Encanto. Disney-Pixar broke box office records with Coco in Mexico. The lead song “No hablamos de Bruno” from Encanto outperformed Frozen’s “Let it go” chart record and streams by a significant amount. 

Finally, we will see Disney’s Marvel studios prepare to bring us our first franchise of superhero’s based on Latino culture. 

The first Latino superhero will be about Namor the Sub-Mariner or Namor el submarino in Spanish.

 Namor the Sub-Mariner is an original Marvel persona based on Atlantis mythology. His powers are connected to the ocean. He is the direct competitor to the more known Aquaman that belongs to Marvels’ rival, DC Comics. 

It is said that Namor the Sub-Mariner will be making his debut in the long- awaited Black Panther’s sequel “Wakanda Forever”. After his debut, he will spin-off to have his own franchise that will give the Latino community their very own fictional world and superhero. Just like Black Panther gave the afro-descendant community their own superhero and fictional world. 

You may be asking yourself; how does this represent the Latino community? Well, Marvel announced Tenoch Huerta, a Mexican actor better known for his work on Narcos: Mexico by Netflix, will bring Namor the sub-mariner to life.

It is rumored that the Atlantean mythology will be reinvented as a fusion with the Aztec culture. This is an incredible idea as the Aztecs are known for their amazing utility of Lake Texcoco as a means of transportation, agriculture, architecture, and protection. Tenochtitlan was founded on top of the lake, which is current day Mexico City. This idea can also serve as a massive introduction to the Aztec culture that will include their gods, mystic beings, and religion. We may even see legendary warriors defending their territory against the colonizer forces, in which the warriors will utilize their mystic knowledge to retreat to the ocean and build Atlantis.  

 The possibilities are infinite!
