Donald Trump likes to compare himself to Winston Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt.

They both faced challenges that affected all citizens. Hitler was saturating London with bombs, and the Japanese surprised the Americans at Pearl Harbor. The English had been receiving bombing raids almost daily. The bombing at Pearl Harbor involved the United States in WWII. Both leaders had to inspire and soothe the frightened citizens. Whatever action they were going to take in the future, they needed the support of its citizens. Both leaders had a war to fight, and they could not appear as if they were weak.
Trump has had at least three opportunities to show his leadership acumen. There was the coronavirus pandemic, the economy, racial unrest. All these issues required presidential leadership. The lack of presidential administration is called The Impossible Dream. There is nothing about Trump that compares him to Churchill or Roosevelt. Churchill and Roosevelt were strong leaders that led their country through a horrible war. Trump is a milli mouthed nincompoop.
First, there was a pandemic. Trump was briefed by his intelligence agency of the danger of COVID-19 long before the virus started spreading like wildfire. Fearing the negative effect on his economic record, he withheld the information from the American people. Consequently, leaders were denied the critical time to prepare for the threat. Given that there was not a library regarding the virus, it was called the novel virus. A virus about which scientists knew nothing. The virus hit New York first unmercifully. Gov Cuomo of New York took the bull by the horns and became the torchbearer for COVID-9. Gov Cuomo practiced simple leadership skills, he listened to the experts. He was the standard for what followed.
Second, the economy is in shambles. Down here at this level where working folk lives, there are still too many unemployed. Praying and hoping that things get better is not what we need. If Trump wants to be compared with Roosevelt, he certainly has not done what Roosevelt did, create jobs. I am sure that everyone unemployed right now knows the effect the virus had on the economy. One way to describe the economy is a train wreck—kind of like Dumpty Dumpty. Trump likes to insult Obama. Obama, too inherited an economy in shambles. His stewardship enabled the economy to recover and prosper. That is the economy that Trump inherited.
Third, Trump wants to be reelected so he can bring law and order to the protests of the “Democratic” cities. He wants to be the tough sheriff in town. Oops. Somebody better tell him that he is already the sheriff. He does not have to wait for a new term to help the cities bring the protests under control. He has a moral obligation to do that. Maybe he lacks morals.
Trump failed to act like Churchill and Roosevelt in mobilizing the people. We are one America. When America needed a leader most, the leader hid inside Fox News studios where everyone agreed with him that he was a great leader, and his bust should be carved into Mt. Rushmore. Trump’s incompetence is frightening. I fully understand his followers are not very bright. They do not speak for the rest of us.
Lies have consequences. Liars bring instability and uncertainty to the table. When Trump hid the information about COVID 19 to the American public, he denied us the right to protect our family. We had the right to know. There is information that the government has a legal right to withhold from us. COVID 19 was not one of them.
America is threatened now by three crises, pandemic, economy, and racial tensions. I recall 9/11. 9/11 was different because we were attacked. The perpetrators were Muslims from Saudi Arabia. Our way of life was changed forever. All of a sudden, there was fear of all Muslims. Leading the chorus of hate towards Muslims was Trump. He made accusations that were never found to be true. The lie about COVID 19 is one of the thousands of lies Trump has told. We cannot say that any lie was worse than the other one. They all had consequences because they diminished our confidence in our government.
The one lie that stands out is COVID 19. He knew. He lied.
You can ask yourself this question, “How cruel can Trump get?” I ask you this question, “Do you trust the sheriff?”
