Imagine if you will, a society that some said was the envy of the world, some may have called it a “Utopian Society”. Now, imagine me doing this introduction in a Rod Serling (Twilight Zone) voice with a slight Chicano accent.

For many in the U.S. (Before Trump) it may have felt like, maybe we had our share of problems and for some more than others. Pero hope for a better life was not lost.

  Fast forward to 2019, they have impeached the president for Abuse of Power and Obstruction of Congress, which centered on soliciting help from a foreign government (Ukraine) to win an election.  Ultimately, the majority republication Senate voted around party lines not to remove. Nonetheless, he goes down in history as only the third US. President to be impeached. Meanwhile, in Wuhan China, a cluster of a pneumonia cases were reported. Which would later be identified as the Corona Virus and Trump in the middle of negations with China for a trade deal and he stated (paraphrasing) ‘No big deal China has it under control’. The World Health Organization WHO issues guidelines on how to deal with this new virus and all information on Covid 19. Meanwhile, Trump and the rest of the people we entrust with the health and safety of our nation were asleep at the wheel. 

   A precursor to this is (Our) government engaging in the caging of children and separation of families at our southern borders, something before 2016 that would have been unthinkable. Meanwhile, the Black Lives Matter organization that was founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murder is growing more active. Many in Law Enforcement see them as a challenge to police and organize Blue Lives Matter and the general population fell in line to support. Among the mission items of B.L.M. is to eradicate white supremacy, which seems to bring out protests from white hate groups. Which led to a violent protest in 2019 leaving one person dead at the hands of a right-wing radical.  And, for those that still hoped that Trump would become a true president for all its citizens, he gave us confirmation where he stood. After seeing the reports showing the radical right-wing protesters in Nazi like garb he still said, “There are good people on both sides of this protest”. 

  Meanwhile, the unknown virus turned out to be COVID-19, a deadly strain not seen by the World since the incorrectly named Spanish flu of 1918. And yet POTUS was telling us not to worry because China supposedly had it all figured out, nothing to worry about here…

   Trump was still after his trade deal with China, recently reports surfaced (Bolton’s’ Book) that he was asking for China to help in his reelection. He (POTUS) kept the “nothing to see here talk”, as long as he could. Pero, once cases started popping up here and there in February 2020 and his trade deal done, he said (Paraphrasing) “…There may be 15 now or less and in about a month it will go down to five and then zero. “It will magically disappear as we get warmer weather. As we approach the end of June, we now have over 2 Million reported cases and perhaps thousands not yet reported. And, that is the frightening problem, the ones yet reported. When Trump admitted to the virus, he started calling it the Asian or China flu which led to attacks on Asian Americans. As if that would somehow release him from fault. How much more will our death toll grow from where it stands now at roughly 125, 000?  And how much longer can our health system sustain this load before it collapses from the sheer weight? 

  Not to worry though Trump has a solution to the increasing cases, “Slow down the testing” the more testing the more cases. And to make sure this happens he is reducing funding to some testing sites, including in Texas. If this is not a solution straight from the SNL character (Drunk Uncle) I don’t know what is. Still hard to believe that I would compare the POTUS to the drunk Uncle simplistic character that spouts out opinions that are embarrassedly ridicules. Pero, here we are facing a life of threating disaster, ingrained racism, and a Giant humanitarian issue at our southern borders. It truly feels like the ‘Twilight Zone’ God help us all.
