La importancia de la Pascua

Pascua es un tiempo importante para muchas personas, podría decirse que una gran mayoría, pero insignificante para otros.  Es cuando aún quienes no la celebran, tal vez hayan escuchado de ella. Aunque muchas personas celebran la Pascua, algunos realmente no saben su significado y otros solo siguen una tradición. La Pascua tiene un gran significado para las personas religiosas, ya que celebra el día en que Jesucristo resucitó. Esto hace de esta fecha la más importante de las celebraciones religiosas, incluso aún más que la Navidad.

 A diferencia de otras celebraciones que cuentan con un día de celebración exacta, la Pascua no lo tiene.  Se acostumbra a celebrarla el primer domingo después de la luna llena de la primavera. Significa que es el período entre el 22 de marzo al 20 de abril aproximadamente. Todo varía dependiendo de la luna.

Para un cristiano, la palabra “Pascua” significa “paso” y se refiere al paso de la muerte a la vida. En este caso, es cuando Cristo resucita al tercer día después de morir crucificado injustamente.

La Pascua se inicia con el Miércoles de Ceniza. Este año fue el 22 de febrero y el Domingo de Pascua será el 9 de abril. La Cuaresma inicia desde el Miércoles de Ceniza cuando se empieza a contar los siguientes 40 días, sin contar los domingos, para llegar a festejar el Día de Pascua.

En la Cuaresma los cristianos acostumbran a prepararse de diferentes maneras. Hacen penitencias como orar, hacer obras de caridad y ayunar. En especial se abstienen de comer carne los viernes para solidarizarse con los pobres. Algunos de estos sacrificios no aplican para niños, ancianos o personas enfermas. Lo que la iglesia quiere hacer con estas tradiciones es que los católicos se transformen y purifiquen para poder estar listos y también ellos resucitar con Jesus y ser unas personas nuevas.

En estas fechas es muy común ver hispanos participar en escenas del Viacrucis en las calles o en las iglesias. Se acostumbra que miembros de las iglesias o voluntarios interpreten los personajes que tomaron parte de la crucifixión de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

Todos tenemos diferentes maneras de vivir y entender la Pascua: algunos por tradición, otros por obligación y otros por voluntad propia. Lo importante de esta fecha es realmente lograr un cambio en nuestros corazones: buscar ser personas de bien y amar al prójimo como a uno mismo.

Easters’ Significance

     Easter is an important date for most people, a majority, but it is insignificant for others. It is a time when even those who do not celebrate it have probably heard of it. Even though many people celebrate Easter, some do not know its true meaning and others only follow traditions. Easter has great significance for religious people because it celebrates the raise of Jesus Christ. This makes this holiday one of the most important celebrations in Christianism, even more than Christmas.

     Different from other holidays which have an exact date for celebrations, Easter does not have one, as that day may vary. Easter Day is celebrated on the first Sunday after the Spring Full Moon. It is usually the period between March 22 to April 20. Everything varies depending on the moon.

      For a Christian, the word “Easter” suggests “Passage” and it refers to the passage from death to life. In this case, it is Christ’s resurrection on the third day after his crucifixion.

     Easter starts with Ash Wednesday, which this year was on February 22nd, and ends on Easter Sunday, which will be April 9th. Starting on Ash Wednesday we count the next 40 days, without including Sundays, to celebrate Easter day. During Lent Christians tend to prepare in different ways. For example, many do penances like praying, doing charitable works, and fasting. They refrain from eating meat on Fridays to show solidarity with the poor. Some of these sacrifices

 are not applicable to children, older adults, or sick people. By following these traditions, the church hopes Christians transform and clean their sins to join Jesus in His journey to the Cross and raise with Him to become a better person.

     During Lent, it is very common for Hispanics to perform scenes from the Via Crucis on the streets or churches. Usually, it is customary that members of the church, or volunteers, to take the roles of the characters present during the trail and sentencing to death of Jesus Christ.

    Most people have different ways of living and understanding Easter. Many do it as a tradition, others forced by parents or relatives, and many do it because it’s in their heart. The importance of Lent is that it’s all about making a change in our hearts: seek to be good people and love our neighbor as we’d love ourselves.
