Es increíble saber que viviendo en un estado tan hispano como Texas todavía hay clínicas sin ningún trabajador bilingüe. Es difícil poder comunicarse con alguien que no te pueda entender y en temas de la salud podría ser algo peligroso. La verdad es que no hay suficientes latinos bilingües en el trabajo de medicina. 

La importancia de estudiar enfermería en las universidades es grande, el futuro depende de eso. El campo de la medicina subestima la importancia de necesitar gente que pueda comunicarse con los pacientes. La nueva generación de estudiantes puede utilizar todas las ventajas que hay en ser bilingüe: hay más oportunidades de empleo, de tener posiciones mejor pagadas y, por supuesto, en términos de estudios, podrían recibir becas que un estudiante no bilingüe no puede recibir. 

Pero lo más valioso es el poder de ayudar a la gente que más lo necesita. Por ejemplo, en estos tiempos difíciles que hemos tenido el pasado año, ¿a cuántos hospitales les ha faltado personal bilingüe? En los días pasados, con el descubrimiento de las vacunas contra el coronavirus, ha sido de más importante tener enfermeros bilingües para asistir no solamente en la administración de las vacunas, sino también en la asistencia de llenar formularios para inscribirse en la lista de espera de vacunas. 

El mundo de la medicina siempre está cambiando y creciendo. También la población de hispanos sigue aumentando. Simplemente el servicio médico va a necesitar de más gente bilingüe y por eso debería haber más estudiantes bilingües estudiando enfermería en las universidades.

I see it every day: Spanish speakers in doctor offices not knowing how to communicate with their service provider. It is amazing to know that living in a state as Hispanic as Texas there are still clinics without any bilingual workers. It is difficult to communicate with someone who cannot understand you and in health matters, it could be dangerous. The truth is, there are not enough bilingual Latinos in the medical field. The importance of studying nursing in universities is great, it is the future. The medical field underestimates the importance of needing people who can communicate with patients.

The new generation of students can use all the advantages of being bilingual, there is a greater chance of employment, of better-paid positions, and of course, in terms of studies, they can receive scholarships that a student who is not bilingual could not receive. The most valuable thing is the power to help the people who need it most. For example, in these difficult times that we have had in the past year, how many hospitals have been understaffed?

Nowadays, with the discovery of vaccines against the coronavirus, it has been of more importance to have bilingual nurses to assist not only in the administration of vaccines but also in assisting with filling out forms and registering patients on the waiting list of vaccines. The world of medicine is always changing and growing. Also, the population of Hispanics continues to increase. The medical service industry is simply going to need more bilingual people and that is why more bilingual students should study nursing at universities.
